Recently, 2:19 has been in discussion with the Bible Society and highly recommends taking a look at what they are doing. Our very own Maura Baldwin was chatting to Harry about some recent projects that are really engaging with and helping people bring change in extremely difficult circumstances.
Harry shares with us on ‘Navigating Trauma’
At Bible Society, we believe that God’s word is powerful, and he works through it to change lives, for good. One of our aims is to catalyse Bible-inspired change in the world. That’s why we’ve launched a Bible-based programme called Navigating Trauma, designed to lead people through trauma towards a place of peace. It uses Scripture to help people who’ve experienced trauma reflect on what they’ve experienced. As they enter the world of the Bible, they find their own stories there too. Sharing their insights and responses leads to deep encounters with one another and with God.
You can find out more on our website or get in touch with us at navigating.trauma@biblesociety.org.uk. You will need the support of your church or organisation leader to be put forward for training, and the leader will need to complete the safeguarding paperwork. Once these are successfully completed, we’ll invite you to a four-day training residential to equip you to deliver Navigating Trauma. We hope that as partnerships grow, we can build a network of churches and organisations offering help to people across your local area.
Harry shares with us on the ‘Domestic Ukraine Response’
Bible Society offers the Bible in any language, free of charge, to refugees and asylum seekers in the UK. Recently, we shared a story from a family who had lost everything in Ukraine. They spent a month in a cellar, their house was destroyed and they had to travel a thousand kilometres to get to safety. Through that experience, both parents came to faith. They told us they’ve discovered that when reading the Bible, ‘the wound in your soul becomes smaller.’ This is a powerful reminder that the Bible itself brings light, even in the deepest darkness.
We’ve been providing free Bibles in Ukrainian and Russian to churches in the UK. So far we’ve distributed 3,800 and the number continues to rise. We want to make access to these Scriptures as easy as possible, so if your church wants to get hold of Bibles, New Testaments and Children’s Bibles to give to the refugees you’re engaging with, here’s where you can find out more.
Bible Society supporters are making this work possible by generously donating to provide resources for refugees. These include a small booklet called Beyond Disaster which is available in both Ukrainian and Russian. Both practical and packed with Scripture, the booklet takes the reader through spiritual and emotional first aid, helping those dealing with recent trauma.
