Do you have learners who are not literate in their own language? Do you teach learners who are not comfortable with Roman script? This is a very practical session to give teachers a chance to understand how learners learn to read and write Roman script and some strategies and activities to help them to do so. This is a repeat of last year’s session (by popular request) for those who missed the opportunity to attend.

Develop understanding of the range of skills and experiences learners with low level literacy bring to classes.
Empathise more fully with the experience of being a beginning reader and writer in an EFL/ESOL class.
Identified some key strategies for working at this level.
Consider a variety of strategies for tackling spelling.
